Sachelle Brooks Political Consumption

This blog contains my political consumption, after the election.

Overview

Within the last week I have tracked my political engagement in relation to the media.  Analyzing the reports and the type of media I am attracted to are articles related to the president and issues Congress is dealing with. As a reader I do have my own biases, and they are reflected in these post.

I am surprised looking back at my posts of how many of my articles and readings main source is Fox. I am not a huge fan of Fox, especially the tweets they produce. I have realized that I am more biased to the content I look into rather than where I get the information from within this week. My political consumption is usually done while I am multitasking, traveling, or something convenient. This is one of the reasons why my posts do not consist of tv postings. When I am on the go I rely on my iphone apps such as CNN, Twitter, Facebook, and MSNBC.

Day:6

My political consumption has not been slow. I realize that I do not really rely on tv for my consumption unless it is something of breaking news, or like a major event. Otherwise, I just read articles or let my phone update me on events. I do not seem to mind this because i am usually notified about issues that I have looked at before or something I have marked to be updated about. This can be seen in the past picture posts I have uploaded.

Today I have read a short article “ In his second term, Obama could take a tip from Jefferson”,

about the president and his interaction or lack of interaction with Congress.

I have realized that I am drawn to articles about the president.

I have been using twitter a lot more this week to get updates and to be kept informed. I enjoy using twitter to get information because it gives me quick insights into what’s going on with some issues and allows me to look into it further later. This is how I use twitter but not everyone uses it this way. Some people are so engulfed with other people’s comments that the story is no longer the focal point.

The issue of gun control and it’s direction concerns me. I am afraid that the government will let this blow over or even worse turn into something it’s not.

This tweet today made me realize that I expect negative and opposing views from fox. Sometimes when I can not form a solid opinion on something I turn to fox and they seem to project what I do not want to hear. Sadly, it’s not always because of what they are reporting but rather how they report it. My friend who is a Fox advocate tells me facts are facts, and that I do not like fox because I can’t handle the truth. In retrospect, I do not want my dose of reality with prosecution of my personal belief. I feel like media does that a lot to its audience and that’s why people prefer certain networks.

Analyzing my political interest

The more I track and record my political interest, the more I see that I read issues that I find interesting, I do not know much about, or affect me in some type of manner.

Earlier today I read an article about a president Obama look a like, and later on while surfing the web I came across this article.

Biden, House in final talks on curbing gun violence before Obama decides next step

I have been waiting to see how long it would take for officials to deal with the matter of gun control. The public has been calling for the government to make changes for sometime now, and I personally do not want this issue to blow over. Unfortunately, this article did not layout any plan or new information which is just continuing to draw out the process of changing gun control.

Obama lookalike in demand for inauguration season…

Looking at the president look a like made me giggle. I never thought that the president really used a look a like at events. I have seen this concept  in movies like Head of State starring Chris Rock used for security purposes but, never thought the look a like would speak or actually perform something the president was asked to do.  I personally do not think the look a like Larry Grave looks enough like president Obama, but I can not say I do not see the resemblance.

When reading the article I found out that Grave makes about 1100 dollars an appearance. This stuck an intrest in me, what is the average rate for a look a like?

For Katie Middleton her look a like makes 1000 dollars an hour. To be honest I feel like other celebrities have better look a likes than the president, and I still do not know how I feel about knowing he has a double.

Honestly I would not consider this a major political piece, but most of the times websites and search engines consider anything president related political.  I do not agree with this misconception, just because an article is about the president does not make it political.
